# Changelog

All notable changes to the Celestia beamer theme are documented in this file.

## [1.2.5] - 2026-07-15

### Fixed
- Figure captions are centered again. The global `\captionsetup` forced
`justification=raggedright` with `singlelinecheck=false`, which left every
caption flush left even when it fit on a single line; it now uses
  `justification=centering`. The `lstlisting`/`listing` code-caption headers
  keep their left alignment.
- Italic text (`\emph`, `\textit`) renders in a true italic under
LuaLaTeX/XeLaTeX again. When the theme forces `UprightFont={Inter Light}`
(the default `light`/`semibold` combination) fontspec stopped auto-detecting
the italic face and fell back to the upright shape; the `Inter Light Italic`
and `Inter SemiBold Italic` faces are now declared explicitly on those
  branches.

## [1.2.4] - 2026-05-25

### Added
- Conditional handling of the `clean` frametitle: the left vertical bar now
follows the value of `frametitlepadding` horizontally when provided.

### Changed
- Visual tuning of the `clean`, `plainrule` and `subtle` frametitle templates
(better default vertical spacing, tighter coupling between subtitle and the
decorative rule, scope-safe coordinate handling for the `clean` bar).

## [1.2.3] - 2026-05-15

### Added
- Support for Beamer overlay specifications (`<2->`, `<3->`, etc.) on the
  theorem-like environments (`definition`, `theorem`, `example`, `remark`,
  `property`, …). Standard Beamer syntax:
  `\begin{definition}<2->[title=…] … \end{definition}`.
- New `frametitlepadding=<dim>` and `frametitlebottomskip=<dim>` options to
fine-tune the height of the frame title for every frametitle style.
- Documentation: dedicated section listing the named colors exposed globally
by the theme and usable directly in TikZ (`background`, `main`, `accent`,
  `blockcolor`, `examplecolor`, `alertcolor`, `emphasis`, `decoration`).

### Fixed
- Numbering of theorem-like environments no longer increments at every
overlay of the same frame (`\resetcounteronoverlays` is now applied to
every counter created by the theme). Applies both to the new `<2->`
  syntax and to plain `\pause`.

## [1.2.2] - 2026-03-21

### Changed
- The `light` option now also applies to the monospaced font and to a
user-supplied sans face: under LuaLaTeX/XeLaTeX the theme appends
  `UprightFeatures={Weight=300}` to `sansfaceoptions` and
`monofaceoptions`, so variable fonts render in a light weight too.

### Fixed
- Loading of the Inter static styles is now guarded with
  `\IfFontExistsTF`: `Inter Light` and `Inter SemiBold` are only requested
when actually installed, instead of aborting the compilation on systems
that ship only the base Inter family.
- Standard TeX ligatures (`--`, `---`, quote substitution) are declared as
a default font feature under LuaLaTeX/XeLaTeX
  (`\defaultfontfeatures{Ligatures=TeX}`).

## [1.2.1] - 2026-03-15

### Changed
- New out-of-the-box look: the default palette is `nordic` (was
`lumiere`), the default block style `sober` (was `fullbar`), the default
footer `info` (was `prestige`) and the default frame title `subtle` (was
  `plainrule`).
- Flatter rendering: theorem-like environments and the `box`, `macos` and
`bar` code styles no longer carry a drop shadow (`no shadow` replaces
  `drop fuzzy shadow`).
- The `info` footer uses slightly wider side margins (2 em instead of
1.5 em) for the author/title group and the frame counter.

## [1.2.0] - 2026-02-22

### Added
- `style=<name>` option with twelve preset styles (`academic`, `chalk`,
  `design`, `editorial`, `executive`, `lumiere`, `minimal`, `modern`,
  `signature`, `simple`, `sober`, `studio`), each bundling a palette, a
frame title style, a footer style and a block style. Replaces the
  `scheme` option of 1.1.x.
- New footer designs for `footerstyle`: `prestige` (default), `info`,
  `badge`, `classic`, `cosmic`, `minimalist`, `ruled`, `framed`, `boxed`
  and `boxedruled`, alongside `fullbar` and `fraction`. The 1.1.x values
  `default`, `quartercircle`, `number` and `shadedfullbar` are gone.
- New frame title styles: `plainrule` (default), `clean`, `subtle`,
  `line`, `leftbar`, `gradient` and `cosmic`, alongside `elegant` and
  `plain`; `centered`, `plaincentered` and `shaded` are gone.
- Single `block=<style>` option selecting the block design: `fullbar`
  (default), `bar`, `sober`, `soft`, `shaded`, `noback`, `plain`,
  `native`, `native-shadow`, `native-default`. Replaces the `soberblock`,
  `softblock`, `shadedblock` and `nobackblock` keys. New
  `barblockopacity` option (default `0.05`).
- `codestyle=<name>` option for code blocks: `bar` (default), `frame`,
`box` and `macos` (window frame with traffic-light dots). The
`nocodebox` option is removed (`codebox` remains).
- `progressbar` option: progress bar at the bottom of every slide,
natively integrated in the `info` and `minimalist` footers, overlaid on
the page for the other styles.
- `emphasis` and `decoration` options choosing which palette color
  (`main` or `accent`) drives headings/items and rules/ornaments.
- Extended family of theorem-like environments: `property`, `properties`,
  `definitions`, `examples`, `remarks`, `method`, `activity`,
  `activities`, `application` and `applications` join `theorem`, `lemma`,
  `proposition`, `corollary`, `definition`, `example` and `remark`.
Titles follow the `language` option (English/French); with a
`block=native…` style they degrade to standard Beamer blocks.
- `quiz` environment with a `\correct` item command for multiple-choice
questions; correct answers are highlighted on the second overlay.
- `\cverb` command for the styled inline verbatim.
- `mathface` and `mathfaceoptions` options; the math setup defaults to
  the Iwona font.
- `semibold` and `light` options (both enabled by default): bold text
maps to a semibold weight and the sans body face to Inter Light.
- Half-step size commands (`\largeLarge`, `\LargeLARGE`, `\LARGEhuge`, …)
usable in the size options; new `footertextsize` (default `tiny`) and
  `blocktitleweight` (default `bfseries`) options.
- `\twocolumntoc` command for a two-column table of contents; the
corresponding option is renamed from `twocolumntoc` to `twocoltoc`.
- `\subject` now stores its argument (exposed as `\insertsubject`) in
addition to setting the PDF subject metadata.

### Changed
- Palette collection rebuilt around 22 palettes: `chalk`, `dusk`,
  `horizon`, `imperial`, `lumiere`, `manuscript`, `mineral`, `obsidian`,
  `oxford`, `palatial`, `petrol`, `prestige`, `sapphire`, `steel`,
  `terracotta`, `velours` and `velvet` are new; `copper`, `midnight`,
`nordic`, `royal` and `sakura` are kept; the other 1.1.x palettes are
removed. The default palette is `lumiere`.
- Font setup rebuilt: `mainface` is renamed `serifface`; the default
monospaced font is IBM Plex Mono (`plex-mono`, was Roboto Mono); the
same defaults apply to pdfLaTeX through the `inter`, `literata` and
`plex-mono` packages; missing fonts fall back to TeX Gyre faces with a
warning; the theme now uses `\usefonttheme{professionalfonts}`.
- Default `titlealign` is now `left` (was `center`); default sizes
  retuned (`titlesize=LargeLARGE`, `frametitlesize=normalsize`).
- The TikZ background decoration system is removed (`decorative`,
  `nodecorative`, `decorationstyle` and `decorationopacity` options).
- The theme no longer overrides `\verb`, `\texttt` and
`\lstinputlisting`; use `\cverb` for the themed inline verbatim.
- Code listing captions are labeled "Programme" in French documents.

## [1.1.1] - 2025-11-02

### Fixed
- `tikz`, `tcolorbox` and `multicol` are now loaded unconditionally.
Previously `tikz` was only loaded when decorations were enabled and
`tcolorbox` only with `codebox`, so option combinations such as
`decorationstyle=none` with `nocodebox` failed with undefined control
sequences (the theorem environments and several templates rely on
  them).
- XeLaTeX now loads the packaged `sourceserifpro`, `sourcesanspro` and
  `roboto-mono` fonts, as pdfLaTeX does, instead of probing system fonts;
the previous probing code could wrongly replace the main font when the
sans fallback was triggered (`\setmainfont` instead of
  `\setsansfont`).

## [1.1.0] - 2025-11-02

### Added
- Color palette system: 28 predefined palettes selectable with
  `palette=<name>` (`amber`, `coral`, `emerald`, `lavender`, `midnight`,
  `modern`, `nordic`, `ocean`, `sunset`, `twilight`, …; default
  `midnight`), plus `custompalette={main,accent,block,example,alert,
background}` to define all six colors at once.
- `scheme=<name>` presets (`light`, `academic`, `creative`, `zen`,
`simple`) configuring decoration style, footer, frame title and block
style in one option; explicitly passed options keep priority.
- `footerstyle=<name>` option replacing the `nofooter`,
  `quartercirclefooter` and `fullbarfooter` booleans; values `default`,
  `quartercircle`, `fullbar` and the new `shadedfullbar`, `number` and
  `fraction` designs.
- `titlealign=left|center|right` option (default `center`) replacing the
  `centeredtitle` and `titleright` booleans.
- `titlebackground=<file>` option: full-page image behind the title page
  (rendered at 15 % opacity).
- Configurable decorations: `decorationstyle=none|sober|fancy|minimal`
  (default `none`) and `decorationopacity=<0-1>` (default `0.2`).
- New block styles `shadedblock` and `nobackblock` alongside `soberblock`
and `softblock`, a `defaultblock` key to restore the standard style,
  and per-style opacity options `shadedblockopacity` (default `0.35`),
  `soberblockopacity` and `softblockopacity` (default `0.18`).
- `sectionpage` (default `true`) and `sectionnumber` (default `false`)
options controlling automatic section pages and section numbering.
- `codehandler=listings|minted` option: source code can now be handled by
`minted`, framed in the same `tcolorbox` decor as `listings`.
- Theorem-like environments rebuilt on `tcolorbox`: `theorem`, `lemma`,
  `proposition`, `corollary`, `definition`, `example` and `remark`, with
automatic numbering, translated titles and a key-value interface
(`title=`, `label=`, plus any tcolorbox key such as `colback` or
  `colframe`).
- Size options `titlesize`, `frametitlesize`, `sectiontitlesize` and
  `subtitlesize` (defaults `Large`, `large`, `LARGE`, `Large`).
- New `shaded` frame title style (title on a shaded colored background).
- `\verb` is redefined as a styled inline verbatim (colored,
  `listings`-based).

### Changed
- Default colors now come from the `midnight` palette (`maincolor`
  `0A1F3C`, `accentcolor` `B38600`, …) instead of fixed option defaults;
the individual color options still override the palette.
- The theme no longer redefines `\alert`; Beamer's standard alerted-text
  handling applies.

## [1.0.7] - 2025-10-18

### Changed
- Blocks (`block`, `exampleblock`, `alertblock`) now get 0.5 em of
vertical space before and after, and the default block style no longer
  uses Beamer's rounded corners.
- The decorative rule on the title page is thinner (0.5 pt whatever the
`headweight`) and shorter for left-aligned layouts (35 % of the line
  width instead of 95 %).

### Fixed
- The vertical spacing below the frame title (all four styles) now
handles the `nofooter` case on its own instead of only inside
`quartercirclefooter`, fixing the title height when footers are
  disabled.

## [1.0.6] - 2025-09-13

### Changed
- Maintenance release: the default `maincolor` is darkened from `2C3E50`
  to `1e293b`.

## [1.0.5] - 2025-08-31

### Changed
- The block color options are renamed: `mainblue`, `maingreen` and
  `mainred` become `blockcolor` (default `1A3B52`), `examplecolor`
(default `1A5228`) and `alertcolor` (default `52281A`); the internal
color names used by `\mathterm`, `\mathdef` and the URL color follow.
- Default `maincolor` changed from `045549` to `2C3E50`.
- The `unicolor` option now covers the whole theme: subtitle, institute
and date on the title page, every block style (default, `soberblock`,
`softblock`) and the standout blocks all derive from `main` when it is
set. The `\setblockopacity` helper is removed.

### Fixed
- A typo (`\celestia@headwight`) prevented the `headweight` option from
being honored when drawing the title-page rule; the rule now matches
the chosen weight and its color follows `unicolor`.

## [1.0.4] - 2025-07-20

### Fixed
- In the footline templates, the short title (a hyperlink to the title
page) is printed in the footer text color instead of the hyperlink
  color (`\hypersetup{linkcolor=.}`).

## [1.0.3] - 2025-07-01

### Added
- `boldurl` option: URLs are typeset in bold (`\UrlFont`).

### Changed
- Colored table of contents: section entries (number and title) use
`main`, subsection entries use the accent color, with matching
  hyperlink colors.
- Section pages now display the title `\LARGE` in `main`; subsection
pages display the subsection title `\Large` in the accent color.
- `colorlinks=true` is set explicitly in `\hypersetup`.
- pdfLaTeX: Roboto Mono is loaded scaled to 0.9 to better match the text
  fonts.

## [1.0.2] - 2025-06-10

### Added
- `shownavigation` option: Beamer's navigation symbols (hidden by
default) can be displayed, recolored to match the theme and integrated
into every footer style, including a dedicated `plain with nav`
footline for plain frames when footers are disabled.
- Themed `button` and `button border` colors (switched to the accent
  color on standout frames).

### Changed
- Section pages: the decorative background is rebuilt with randomly
placed shaded spheres and stars around a central sphere, replacing the
fixed circles; the halo behind the section title is retuned.
- The decorative circles of the title page now use the `main` color
  instead of `accent`.

## [1.0.1] - 2025-05-24

### Added
- `language=<name>` option (default `english`) passed to `babel`, which
is now only loaded when the document has not loaded it already (it was
previously required unconditionally and without options).
- XeLaTeX support: fonts are configured through `fontspec` as with
  LuaLaTeX.
- Additional font fallbacks: when Source Serif Pro, Source Sans Pro or
Source Code Pro are not installed, TeX Gyre Termes, TeX Gyre Heros or
Latin Modern Mono are used instead of failing.
- Bibliography styling: dedicated colors for bibliography entries
(author, title, location, note), and with `biblatex` the bibliography
heading now sets a frame title.

## [1.0.0] - 2025-01-08

Initial release.

- Modern Beamer theme for academic and professional presentations, with a
  configurable color system (`maincolor`, `accentcolor`, `mainblue`,
  `maingreen`, `mainred`, `backgroundcolor`) and font options
(`mainface`, `sansface`, `monoface`; Literata, Inter and Roboto Mono by
  default) for LuaLaTeX and pdfLaTeX.
- Four frame title styles (`elegant`, `centered`, `plain`,
  `plaincentered`), footer variants (`quartercirclefooter`,
`fullbarfooter`, `nofooter`), standout frames and decorative title and
  section pages.
- Block styles (`soberblock`, `softblock`), `tcolorbox`-framed code
listings, compact and two-column table of contents options.
